Have you ever wondered what medieval Rome looked like? In this seminar, we’ll explore the city’s transformation of Rome in the Middle Ages. We reveal a glimpse of a medieval Rome through the fascinating layers of history at Crypta Balbi and other individual monuments.

Ancient Rome was rainbow of color. From Tunisian Yellow to Sparta’s green Porphyry, we’ll examine the variety of colored marbles and related stones used in the Roman world for architectural and sculptural decoration, and take deeper investigation into quarries and logistical practices.
