VESUVIAN CITIES

EXPLORE THE BAY OF NAPLES AND BEYOND

March 11 to 15 2024, with arrival in Naples on March 10
November 10 to 15 2024, with arrival in Naples on November 9

We’ve always been taken by the story of those hot August AD79 days and the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius. Today, we can go back in time and into the footsteps of those last days by exploring the Vesuvian cities Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae and other little visited sites. This five (5) day itinerary starts in Napoli, one of Italy’s most dynamic cities where thousands of years of history seem to converge at once. We’ll explore the city and its amazing archaeological museum, and then bring you beyond the bay to the Vesuvian cities where we’ll have fascinating archaeological visits with contemporary experts. Expect more than antiquity – gastronomic and culinary delights and local artisans. Join us as we are immersed in the daily life of the Ancient Romans today.

This is a five-day itinerary for a maximum of 12 people. Guests should plan to be in Naples no later than Sunday afternoon to join us for a Welcome dinner.  We will provide light lunches on Monday through Friday.  The last site visit concludes on Friday, but plan your departure for Saturday as we would love you to join us for a Goodbye dinner.

Site visits are programmed each day between 8:30 and 2pm, giving you time to explore Napoli in the afternoon and evening. You are responsible for:

  • your flights
  • arrival into Napoli
  • lodging
  • travel insurance

We are happy to provide you with suggestions for hotels, transport, restaurants and more.

BUILDING A ROMAN CITY

 URBANIZATION AND MONUMENTALITY

May 6 to 10 2024, with arrival in Rome on May 5

Rome’s vast urban sprawl is one of the amazing facets of this city. We’ll take a template some Roman Republican sites outside of Rome (Terracina, Aquinas) to peel back what its Republic matrix was. And we’ll explore in-depth Ostia Antica and its port for a view of its 2nd century metropolitan aspect. We’ll also delve into some of Rome’s lesser known museums and sites: fascinating archaeological visits with contemporary experts that live and breathe Ancient Rome daily for decades of research and excavation experience. Expect more than antiquity – gastronomic and culinary delights and local artisans Join us as we immerse in the daily life of the Ancient Romans today.
