[MASTERCLASS] What were the colossal statues of ancient Rome?

February 27, 2022 @ 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm CET

The colossus of Nero was Rome’s most famous colossal statue of bronze.  But Rome was originally filled with a forest of gold, silver, and gold statuary of larger than life-size scale.   In this talk we’ll take a look at the literary and physical evidence- from shipwrecks to fragmentary scraps- reliefs and inscriptions- to substantial the claim that Rome truly was the most beautiful and lavishly decorated city in the ancient world.
